about Natasha
a little bit about me, Natasha the artist, creatrix, the human behind the art. Art and creativity has always been a part of my life, growing up I was constantly drawing, creating paintings, drawings and daisy chains. i’ve grown up with my Brazilian mother and English father so have always had this duality, this difference and merging of cultures and languages. I never really felt like I fit in at school, I was always wondering about the nature of reality, and decided that fairies did exist and were real and they were plastered all over my bedroom wall.
I went through school always painting it was my therapy, my way of dealing with my family breaking apart around me and difficult situations that I faced. I was pressured and told that art wasn’t a real subject so I went on to study footwear design and development at the London college of fashion. again I found myself in a world that I didn’t quite fit in, realising the fashion industry was very competitive and quite toxic. however I graduated with good grades and I was chosen for an interview with a footwear design consultancy in London where 5 of my colleagues from uni also were interviewed. I ended up getting the job, at this trendy sports and lifestyle design company where I got to design new trainers and sneakers for brands such as new balance, asics, ugg, lorna Jane and Hoka. I worked as a designer for over 4 years, I really enjoyed this job and my colleagues, however something deeper stirred in me, a yearning and a calling that got louder and louder.
After an intense breakup with someone I thought was the love of my life in 2017, I was shattered and hit a deep rock bottom. it shifted me into realising working and living in London, designing shoes was not my calling and I had to get out. I had stopped drawing in those design years and so through this period of healing from this breakup I started to draw again. I started to have an awakening, reading books, having realisations and started to get into yoga. I quit my job and booked a one way ticket to India and booked myself straight onto a yoga teacher training.
Travel has always been important to me and this trip to India was life changing. In 2018 I travelled for 18 months through India, sir Lanka & south east Asia. I did a yoga training in India, a 10 day vipassana in the Himalayas which really showed me the deepest parts of myself. I was constantly drawing in my sketch book and painting murals in hostels and places that I went. it was in a hostel in Rajasthan that I was taught by someone who asked me if I wanted to learn how to tattoo. This was the start of my journey with tattoo. it has been over 7 years of this hand poke practice.
Now I live in Dorset, I journey to Brazil often
